After 30 years at Glendale House, Montpellier Creative and Montpellier PR have moved — though not far. We’re now based just a minute’s walk away at Lauriston House, an elegant Regency building in the heart of the Montpellier district of Cheltenham.

Our new home reflects not only the growth of our business but also our ongoing commitment to blending creativity, craftsmanship and credibility — the same values that have guided our design and PR work for three decades.

But moving offices isn’t just about unpacking boxes and setting up desks. In today’s digital-first world, changing your company address means updating a vast network of online references — from your website and Google Business Profile to business directories, social media and SEO listings.

If you don’t manage the process carefully, you risk confusing clients, losing search visibility, and even missing deliveries. So, drawing on our own recent move, here’s a step-by-step guide to ensuring your business address change is seamless — both offline and online.

Step 1: Make a Master List of Everywhere Your Address Appears

Before you start updating your address, create a checklist of every place your business address is listed. This should include:

  • Your website (contact page, footer, about page, privacy policy, and schema markup)
  • Google Business Profile (GBP)
  • Apple Maps, Bing Places, and other map listings
  • Social media accounts (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, YouTube)
  • Business directories (Yell, Yelp, Thomson Local, 192.com, and sector-specific listings)
  • Email signatures and newsletters
  • Invoices, contracts, and stationery
  • Digital advertising platforms (Google Ads, Meta Business Manager, etc.)

You might be surprised how many references you find — especially if your business has been around for as long as ours. Recording everything ensures you won’t overlook a key platform.

Step 2: Update Your Website First

Your website is your digital headquarters, so it should always be updated before anything else.

Start with your Contact page, ensuring the full new address is correct and consistently formatted. Include a Google Map embed of the new location, and add the update date if relevant.

Then, check for address mentions in:

  • The footer (visible on every page)
  • The About or Team page
  • Metadata and schema – your address details are often embedded in your site’s code for SEO. Use Google’s Structured Data Testing Tool to ensure your schema reflects your new details.

Finally, if your site has a blog or news section, consider posting an announcement about your move (just as we’re doing here). It’s great content for both SEO and your clients — especially if it links to your Contact page.

Step 3: Notify Google and Update Your Business Listings

Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) is the most important listing to update because it affects how your company appears in Google Search and Maps results.

  1. Log into your Google Business Profile manager.
  2. Click ‘Edit profile’ and update your address, service area, and opening hours if they’ve changed.
  3. Add new photos of your premises (we’ve uploaded one of Lauriston House — a building that beautifully reflects Cheltenham’s Regency heritage).
  4. Post a short update on your profile announcing the move.

It’s also wise to update Apple Maps, Bing Places, and Waze, as these feed into different navigation and search ecosystems.

Pro tip: once your new details are verified, check your business’s NAP consistency — Name, Address, Phone number. Search engines use NAP data to validate business legitimacy, so make sure it’s identical across every listing.

Step 4: Refresh Your Social Media Profiles

Social media platforms are often overlooked during an address change, yet they’re among the most visible online touchpoints for clients.

On LinkedIn (both your company page and personal profiles), update your address under ‘Location’ and make an announcement post with a photo of your new office. This is also an excellent opportunity to showcase your brand’s evolution and your connection to a specific area — in our case, Cheltenham’s creative quarter around Montpellier.

Do the same on Facebook, Instagram, and X (Twitter), updating location information in the “About” section and posting about your move. Use relevant hashtags like #CheltenhamBusiness or #OfficeMove to improve reach and local discovery.

Step 5: Inform Directories, Partners and Local Listings

Many third-party sites pull address data from aggregators such as Factual, Data Axle, or Yelp. To ensure consistency:

  • Update your details manually on key sites like Yell, 192.com, Thomson Local, and Trustpilot.
  • If you use any local Chamber of Commerce or B2B directories, submit your new details there as well.
  • Don’t forget industry-specific platforms — for example, marketing and PR agencies often appear on DesignRush, Sortlist, or Clutch.

Consistency across these listings helps reinforce your local SEO performance and improves your visibility in “near me” searches.

Step 6: Tell Google About the Change with Structured Data and Citations

Even after you’ve updated your listings, it can take time for Google to recognise the change. Help speed up the process by adding structured data (schema.org markup) to your website.

For example:

{
“@context”: “https://schema.org”,
“@type”: “Organization”,
“name”: “Montpellier Creative”,
“url”: “https://www.montpellier-creative.com”,
“address”: {
“@type”: “PostalAddress”,
“streetAddress”: “Lauriston House, Montpellier, Cheltenham”,
“addressCountry”: “UK”
}
}

You can also build new citations — mentions of your business name and address — on reputable websites. These reinforce to Google that your new address is genuine and current.

Step 7: Redirect Old Listings and Pages

If your old address appears on external websites you don’t control, try to request an update via the site’s contact form. For your own site, consider adding a temporary redirect or note if people might still search for your old address.

For example, on your “Contact” page, you might write:

“After 30 wonderful years at Glendale House, we’re now located at Lauriston House, Montpellier.”

This approach provides context for loyal clients and ensures continuity in your SEO performance.

Step 8: Monitor Performance and Update Search Console

Once everything is updated, monitor your Google Search Console and Google Analytics data. Look for any sudden drops in impressions or clicks for local search terms — particularly your branded queries (e.g. “Montpellier PR Cheltenham”).

If your rankings fluctuate temporarily, don’t panic — Google may take a few weeks to re-index your new details. Continue reinforcing your local SEO with posts, backlinks and fresh photos from your new premises.

Step 9: Announce It Creatively

Finally, celebrate the move! For us, relocating to Lauriston House has been more than a logistical change — it’s a reflection of growth and creative renewal.

When you share your move, consider using multiple channels:

  • Press release or LinkedIn article (like this one)
  • Email newsletter to clients and partners
  • Photos and video tours of the new space
  • Blog content about the process and lessons learned

This not only informs your audience but strengthens your brand story and signals that your business is thriving.

Why Attention to Detail Matters

A change of address might seem simple, but for digital visibility, it’s critical. Inconsistent or outdated information can damage trust and even impact local search rankings. By managing your move methodically — as we’ve outlined here — you protect your online presence, preserve your SEO equity, and maintain the confidence of your clients.

For Montpellier Creative and Montpellier PR, our move from Glendale House to Lauriston House marks the start of an exciting new chapter — one rooted in continuity, creativity and the community of Cheltenham’s Montpellier district.
